The break.
Right pointIntermediateMixed
Taghazout
A long right under the cliffs north of Taghazout. Anchor Point is the wave people mean when they say Morocco. It holds a north swell and runs down the point in sections. The town is still a fishing town with surf camps stacked on the hill. The wind will try to ruin the afternoon.
When.
November to March
North Atlantic swell in winter. A clean morning before the wind is the classic.
Worth knowing.
- 1. Walk the point and pick a section. You do not have to take off at the top if that peak is a zoo.
- 2. The inside can get shallow on the drain. Watch a set from the rocks first.
- 3. Panorama and the bays toward Tamraght are the neighbours if Anchor is maxed or blown.
- 4. Winter is the window. Summer is smaller, still rideable on the right bank, not why you flew.
Go.
Before you paddle.
- 1. Check local conditions before entering
- 2. Always surf with a buddy
- 3. Know your limits and skill level
- 4. Watch for rip currents
- 5. Respect local surfers and rules
