The pass, the barrel
A heavy reef pass on the south of Mauritius. One Eye is the name traveling surfers use for this island. Most of the coast is a lagoon. This takeoff is not. Expert water, a shallow ledge, a wave that throws.
When.
April to September
South swell in the southern winter. It has to be a real pulse. A small day is just the lagoon.
Worth knowing.
- 1. This is not a lagoon lesson. If you came to learn, this is the wrong page.
- 2. The reef is shallow. Watch a set from a safe look before you commit.
- 3. Winter is the window. Summer is inside the coral for most people.
- 4. Access is local knowledge. Do not treat a pass like a public beach peak.
Go.
Before you paddle.
- 1. Check local conditions before entering
- 2. Always surf with a buddy
- 3. Know your limits and skill level
- 4. Watch for rip currents
- 5. Respect local surfers and rules
