Palikir Pass

A right-hand pass on the north barrier reef of Pohnpei. Palikir Pass is P-Pass, the wave that put Micronesia on the boat list. Clean walls, a channel, no car park. You get there from the island with someone who knows the reef.

When.

November to April

North Pacific swell in winter. The pass holds a range of tides.

Worth knowing.

1. 1. This is a boat from the island. Ask for Palikir Pass. Locals do not always say P-Pass.
2. 2. Watch a set from the channel. The inside is still a reef.
3. 3. November to April is the window. Summer here is a different ocean.
4. 4. Pohnpei has other reefs. They need a rarer mix of wind and swell. Do not assume the next pass is on.
