WSL Ericeira, the amphitheatre
A right-hand reef in an amphitheatre north of Ericeira. Ribeira d'Ilhas is the contest wave of the World Surfing Reserve, a wall you can watch from the grass. The village is on the cliff. Coxos is the heavier neighbour. This is the one with the car park and the loudspeaker.
When.
September to March
Northwest swell in autumn and winter. The reef holds a range of sizes.

Worth knowing.
- 1. The grass above the reef is the first look. You will know the size and the crowd before you wax up.
- 2. This is a reef, not a beginner beach. The town beaches are the softer look.
- 3. Coxos is next door and heavier. Do not treat them as the same paddle.
- 4. Autumn and winter are the months. Summer is smaller, still fun, not the contest poster.
Go.
Before you paddle.
- 1. Check local conditions before entering
- 2. Always surf with a buddy
- 3. Know your limits and skill level
- 4. Watch for rip currents
- 5. Respect local surfers and rules
