Bangko-Bangko, the mechanical left

A long, hollow left at Bangko-Bangko, the southwest tip of Lombok. Desert Point is the wave people whisper about, not the one they stumble on. When the swell and the tide line up it can run farther than you expect, mechanical and shallow. When they do not, it is a dry headland and a camp.

When.

May to September

Indian Ocean swell in the dry season. It is picky. The tide matters.

Worth knowing.

  1. 1. This wave is famous for not working. Come with time, not a weekend plan.
  2. 2. The reef is shallow and the takeoff is not a beginner wall. Watch a set from camp first.
  3. 3. Access is a slog. You stay at the point. You do not day-trip it from Senggigi.
  4. 4. Dry season is the only honest window. Even then it can sit there and refuse.
