The longest ride, Lüderitz
A sand point near Lüderitz that can run farther than almost anything on earth when the bar is in. Skeleton Bay is not a town break. It is a sandbar on a desert coast, seals in the water, wind on the afternoon, and a 4x4 to get there. The wave is famous. The access is not easy.
When.
April to October
The bar has to be in. Southern swell and the right sand. It is not a weekly wave.
Worth knowing.
- 1. The sandbar moves. A year that looks like the video can go quiet the next. Do not trust last season.
- 2. This is remote coast. You need a plan for wind, fuel, and getting out. It is not a car-park session.
- 3. Seals and sharks share this water. That is the coast, not a rumour.
- 4. Most people who come here watch more than they surf. That is a reasonable outcome.
Go.
Before you paddle.
- 1. Check local conditions before entering
- 2. Always surf with a buddy
- 3. Know your limits and skill level
- 4. Watch for rip currents
- 5. Respect local surfers and rules
