The gliderport, the cliff trail
La Jolla's heavy beach under the gliderport, not a learn-to-surf sandbar. Blacks is a steep shore, rips, and a walk down the cliff. The Torrey pines sit above it. The water does not care that San Diego is sunny.
When.
November to March
Northwest swell in winter. A clean morning is the bet. A small day is just a closeout.
Worth knowing.
- 1. This is not a first-beach trip. The paddle and the rips are part of the day.
- 2. The trail from the gliderport is the access. You will know the size before you are committed.
- 3. Winter is the window. Summer south is a different ocean on this beach.
- 4. Park at the Torrey Pines Gliderport. The beach is the walk down.
