Medina, São Sebastião
Gabriel Medina's home beach on the São Paulo north coast. Maresias is a punchy sandbar town, nightlife behind the road, Atlantic Forest behind that. Contests have been here. The outside can get serious on a south swell. The everyday wave is why the town exists.
When.
April to September
South and southeast swell in the southern winter. The sandbar moves. The town does not.
Worth knowing.
- 1. The beach is long. Walk until you find a peak that is not a contest.
- 2. The outside bombs are a different session. Be honest about which day you came for.
- 3. São Sebastião is the municipality. The road is the Rio-Santos. Weekend traffic is real.
- 4. Boiçucanga and Juquehy are the next towns if Maresias is a zoo.
Go.
Before you paddle.
- 1. Check local conditions before entering
- 2. Always surf with a buddy
- 3. Know your limits and skill level
- 4. Watch for rip currents
- 5. Respect local surfers and rules
