Ikaria, the surf school

Ikaria is famous for the island. Messakti is the north-coast sand where the surf school sits. Meltemi wind-swell in high summer. Families on the loungers, boards on the same beach. Gialiskari and Armenistis are the towns. This is not a heavy-water name. It is the Ikarian session.

July to August

North wind-swell when the Meltemi is on. The rest of the year is often a swim.

1. 1. July and August are the wind months. That is when the school has work.
2. 2. Currents run outside the flags when it is up. Watch a set from the sand.
3. 3. Livadi is the next beach west, toward Armenistis. Same coast, a quieter walk.
4. 4. The island is the reason people come. The wave is a summer extra, not a pilgrimage.
