The break.
Left pointIntermediateMixed
One of the longest lefts
A left at the end of the road on the Golfo Dulce. Pavones is one of the longest lefts in the world, a point that keeps wrapping when the south swell is on. It is not heavy. It is long. The town is tiny. The drive is the price of admission.
When.
April to September
South swell in the southern winter. The point needs a real pulse to link.
Worth knowing.
- 1. The wave is sections. You can walk back along the point instead of paddling the whole way.
- 2. Punta Banco and the river mouth change on the tide. Watch a set before you pick a takeoff.
- 3. This is the end of the road. Bring what you need. The next town is not next door.
- 4. South swell season is why people come. A small day is still a fun point, not the poster.
Go.
Before you paddle.
- 1. Check local conditions before entering
- 2. Always surf with a buddy
- 3. Know your limits and skill level
- 4. Watch for rip currents
- 5. Respect local surfers and rules
