The Indicator, Rivermouth
The California Rincon, not the Puerto Rico one. A long right off the point at the Santa Barbara and Ventura line, the one people still call the Queen of the Coast. Highway 101 runs above it. The wave is sections. The lineup is not a secret.
When.
November to March
Northwest swell in winter. A clean morning before the wind is the one you want.

Worth knowing.
- 1. This is not Rincon, Puerto Rico. Different ocean, different page.
- 2. Walk the point and pick a section. You do not have to take off at the Indicator if that peak is a zoo.
- 3. Winter is the window. Summer is smaller, still a look, not why the 101 shoulder fills.
- 4. Bates Road is the look. You will know the size and the crowd before you paddle.
Go.
Before you paddle.
- 1. Check local conditions before entering
- 2. Always surf with a buddy
- 3. Know your limits and skill level
- 4. Watch for rip currents
- 5. Respect local surfers and rules
