The south coast slab
A heavy right slab off the south coast of Western Australia, between Denmark and Walpole. The Right is the wave the locals did not put on a sign. It breaks a long way from the sand. Most people who see it are on a boat, in winter, and then they leave.
When.
May to September
Southern Ocean swell in winter. The window is short. The wind will try to take it back.
Worth knowing.
- 1. This is not a car-park session. If you do not already know the boat plan, watch from shore and leave it.
- 2. Winter storms are the only reason it shows. A small day is just the Southern Ocean.
- 3. The exact reef is not a secret because it is friendly. It is a secret because it is heavy.
- 4. Sharks are part of this coast. That is the water, not a movie.
Go.
Before you paddle.
- 1. Check local conditions before entering
- 2. Always surf with a buddy
- 3. Know your limits and skill level
- 4. Watch for rip currents
- 5. Respect local surfers and rules
